About Information Privacy

The Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act has two objectives. Firstly, to allow the public a means to obtain information which the government or a government body holds. The second is to ensure that private, personal information which is held by a government agency is used only for the purpose it was intended and is not improperly disclosed to anyone either inside or outside of government.

Access to information requests are handled by coordinators within each department of the Government of Nunavut. Issues of personal privacy are dealt with directly by the Information and Privacy Commissioner.
